Jack Saltich, Interim CEO and Chairman
Jack Saltich has been a member of the Board of Directors since January, 2002. Mr.
Saltich is a retired executive with over 30 years of experience. From July 1999 till
his retirement in August 2005, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of
Three Five systems Inc., a technology company specializing in the design,
development, and manufacturing of custom LCD displays and display systems.
From 1993 to 1999 Mr. Saltich served as Vice President with Advanced Micro
Devices, where his last position was General Manager of AMD’s European
Microelectronics Center in Dresden, Germany. From 1971 to 1988, Mr. Saltich
served in a number of capacities with Motorola Inc., culminating in his position as
Vice President and Director of the Company’s Advanced CMOS Product R&D
Laboratory. Mr. Saltich also serves on the board of directors of Immersion
Corporation (IMMR), Leadis Technology (LDIS), Atmel Corporation (ATMEL),
Ramtron Corporation (RMTR) and serves on the Manufacturing Advisory Board for
Cypress Semiconductor. Mr. Saltich received both a bachelor and masters degrees
in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois. In 2002, he received a
distinguished alumni award from the University of Illinois.
Byron Sohovich, Director
Mr. Sohovich is a Director of Corporate Planning and Analysis at Battelle Memorial
Institute and is responsible for preparing and coordinating periodic financial
information for Battelle's Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. In this
role, he analyzes budget and estimate submissions from BSTI, Lab Ops, and
Central Services and makes recommendations to the Corporate Controller and Chief
Financial Officer. Prior to this role, Mr. Sohovich was Director of Corporate Financial
Services and was the lead financial resource for Portfolio One financing transactions,
Mergers and Acquisitions, and support services to Battelle subsidiaries. He was the
startup Treasurer and CFO for Vitex Systems, OmniViz, Velocys, Zivena, and
Battelle Oklahoma. He has held numerous financial management positions in the
Venture Management Group, Chemical Market Sector, Transportation Systems, and
National Security. Mr. Sohovich began his career at Battelle in the Government
Accounting Practices department. Prior to joining Battelle in 1986, He was a
business operations/financial manager at Northrop-Grumman in Annapolis, MD and
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in McLean, VA. Mr. Sohovich
received his MBA from University of Dayton. He received a B.S. in Accounting from
University of Steubenville, Ohio, a B.S. in Business Administration, University of
Steubenville, Ohio.
Junji Kitaguchi, Director
Junji Kitaguchi is the Acting General Manager of the Technology & Business
Development Department at the Innovation Center for Mitsubishi Corporation. He is
responsible for directing a technology based new business development initiative. In
2007, Mr. Kitaguchi was the Acting General Manager of the Technology & Business
Development Department at Mitsubishi Corporation headquarters in Tokyo, Japan,
responsible for managing the overall activities concerning new business
development in emerging technology field after a 10 year assignment in New York.
In 1997, Mr. Kitaguchi was the Department Manager of Technology & Business
Development Division of Mitsubishi International Corporation (New York). Since
joining Mitsubishi Corporation (headquartered in Tokyo, Japan) in 1982, Mr.
Kitaguchi has had 23 years of new business development experience covering a
variety of technology fields at Mitsubishi Corporation, including R & D marketing for
Battelle Memorial Institute (Columbus, OH) to Japanese industries. In addition, he
has participated in a joint venture project (named Photonic Integration Research,
Inc.) with Battelle and NTT in the U.S. for commercialization R&D of an innovative
opto-electronics technology developed in Japan. Mr. Kitaguchi has pursued and
materialized a number of strategic partnerships with emerging start-up firms in the
U.S. These activities are centered in high technology fields such as electronics, opto-
electronics, laser, flat panel display, telecommunication, Internet, biotechnology, etc.
He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Kyoto University in Japan.
Michael Kluse, Director
Mike Kluse is the Laboratory Director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory,
operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy. Prior to this assignment,
which began January 1, 2007, Mr. Kluse had responsibility for all of PNNL’s national
security business, which includes science and technology for DOE’s National Nuclear
Security Administration, DOE’s Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence, the
Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the Intelligence
Community.
From 1996 through 2002, Mr. Kluse was the Vice President and General Manager of
Battelle’s Navy Sector. Before transferring to PNNL in 1997, he served as Vice
President of Battelle’s Defense Engineering business that totaled more than $500
million annually. In this capacity, he had responsibility for 400 staff and several
technical product lines. In addition to staff and facilities in Columbus that served a
wide variety of national security clients, the Defense Engineering business had
operations in Massachusetts; Washington, D.C; Utah; and Texas. Mr. Kluse also
served as the central coordinator for the National Security Division’s Internal
Research and Development Program.
Mr. Kluse joined Battelle in 1976 as a defense and space systems research scientist.
His research focused on high-fidelity simulation of aerospace and weapons systems;
physical performance modeling of optical, electro-optical, infrared, and radar target
acquisition sensors; and variance reduction techniques in large-scale simulations.
Before joining Battelle, Mr. Kluse served as an officer in the United States Air Force,
where he was assigned to the Freeman Mathematical Laboratory at Eglin Air Force
Base. There, he was a pioneer in developing new computational methods for the
real-time processing of radar and telemetry data for live weapons testing. He was
awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his accomplishments.
On the national and regional level, Mr. Kluse is a member of the Institute of Nuclear
and Materials Management, National Utility Training and Education Center Board of
Directors, U.S. Air Force Association, U.S. Army Science Board, Washington
Roundtable Board of Directors, Washington State University Tri-Cities Advisory
Committee Washington, and Technology Alliance Board of Directors. At the local
level, Mr. Kluse is a member of the Junior Achievement of the Greater Tri-Cities
Advisory Board of Directors and Tri-City Industrial Development Council.
He holds a B.S. degree in Systems Analysis from Miami University, and a M.S.
degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University.
