The display industry is currently focused on developing OLED displays on rigid glass
substrates. The Barix™ barrier, applied with the Guardian™ thin-film encapsulation
system, enables the display manufacturer to deposit, in-situ, a planarizing barrier
coating directly on top of the OLED display, thereby, eliminating the glued-on-glass
sheet and desiccant. This provides a much thinner and lighter display at a reduced
manufacturing cost. The Guardian™ system combines an in-line polymer vacuum
deposition system and a ceramic deposition system that can be customized to
interface with essentially any manufacturing equipment used to produce OLED
displays, such as cluster tools and linear deposition systems. Guardian™ systems
are also being used for encapsulation of thin-film batteries and other new electronic
devices.
The Guardian™ thin-film encapsulation systems are supplied by licensed,
experienced vacuum system equipment companies. At the customer’s request,
Vitex is open to establishing a licensing arrangement with the customer’s preferred
equipment vendors. Vitex has a team with a proven equipment and technology
transfer program that has been successfully completed with three different
equipment companies.
More than a dozen (>12) systems applying Barix™ barrier technology for research,
development and production have been delivered worldwide.
