As one of the few industries within the electronics sector to witness explosive growth over the past few years, the flat panel display (FPD) market and, more specifically the organic light emitting diode (OLED) display, emerging OLED lighting and flexible display markets, hold tremendous growth opportunities. These are markets that Vitex is committed to lead through its enabling technology portfolio. Specifically, Vitex provides a complete thin-film packaging solution for manufacturing OLED and flexible displays that are 50-90 percent thinner and lighter in weight, extremely durable and are low in cost – providing a unique value to OEMs in the communications, consumer, industrial and military sectors. In fact, Vitex affords the opportunity to open up a broad new range of exciting electronic display applications that could include roll-up or flexible displays that can be affixed to walls, windshields, clothing; new portable devices, among others – the possibilities are endless.
The same characteristics that make Vitex's technology so valuable in the display market have been applied to thin-film photovoltaic (solar) cells. By eliminating costly, heavy and fragile glass packaging, Vitex technology lowers the cost of solar energy and opens up new possibilities for integrating solar cells in curved and light weight architectural structures and mobile applications. Read about some of the recent development that Vitex is doing in partnership with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Additional information about applying Vitex's encapsulation technology to PV cells is found in the March 2008 issue of Solid State Technology magazine.
